Sharing with you all a testimony from one of our ASP mentors from Naic, Cavite, Dave Christian, a Grade 9 student.
“Ako masaya ako kapag Linggo na kasi alam ko ASP time na, pa-iba-iba ‘yung mga tinuturuan ko. Minsan Kinder, minsan naman depende kong saan ako i-a-assign ni Teacher Grace. Pero pinakapaborito kong turuan ‘yung mga Grade 4, kasi nakikinig sila sa akin at seryoso silang matuto. Kaya masaya ako na naging mentor ako sa ASP kasi natuto din akong makisalamuha sa iba. ‘Yung pagiging mahiyain ko ay unti-unti nang nawawala. Dahil sa ASP ‘yung mga kids at kaming mga mentor ay natuto din sa isa’t isa. Parang sila tinuturuan naming bumasa at magbilang at the same time kami naman ay natuturuan nila paano maging confident sa sarili naming kakayahan.
Kaya malaking pagbabago din para sa aking sarili ang pagiging mentor ng ASP dahil pinag-aaralan ko ‘yung mga susunod na magiging topic namin para kahit paano ay ready na ako at hindi mali mali ang ituturo ko. Naging masipag na ako at hindi na ako napapagalitan dahil panay cellphone. Thank you Project PEARLS sa opportunity na binigay niyo sa amin.”
(“I’m happy when Sunday comes because I know it’s ASP time. I teach different groups, sometimes Kinder, sometimes wherever Teacher Grace assigns me. But my favorite to teach are the Grade 4 students because they listen to me and are eager to learn. I’m glad to be a mentor in ASP because I’ve also learned how to interact with others. My shyness is gradually disappearing. Through ASP, both the kids and we, the mentors, learn from each other. We teach them to read and count, and at the same time, they help us become more confident in our abilities.
Being an ASP mentor has brought a lot of positive changes in my life. I study the upcoming topics so I’m prepared and teach accurately. I’ve become more diligent and I don’t get scolded for always being on my phone anymore. Thank you, Project PEARLS, for giving us this opportunity.”)
