LSEG supported our Hunger Relief Program by providing meals of rice with squash and string beans cooked in coconut milk, boiled eggs, juice, and bananas. Despite the harsh weather, LSEG extended their support to families and children experiencing homelessness in Liwasang Bonifacio, and Kalaw Avenue by distributing binalot meals of rice, pork adobo with potatoes, bananas, and apples. This also gave volunteers the chance to spend time with them, helping to break the stigma and remind us that we are interconnected parts of the community.
In the Philippines, recent records show that there are about 4.5 million homeless people, including an estimated 250,000 children in street situations (Joly Homes Foundation & ASMAE Philippines, 2023). As citizens, we have a responsibility to ensure access to shelter, food, and security – fundamental rights that are inherent and inalienable to us. After all, development is for everyone.
