“Storytelling and Reading Time at Helping Land”
After School Program
August 21,2016
Sunday
Helping Land, Tondo, Manila
To start this day, a brief orientation was held first and was led by our After School Program coordinator Jedda Punzalan.
She welcomed the volunteers and shortly explained what is Project Pearls. She also stated what would be the set of activities for the coming three hours that will be spent with the kids.
Most of the volunteers for this day were first timers. Welcome and thank you for coming!
After that, almost 300 kids then entered the courtyard.
A short prayer before the program started…
And then the sing and dance wherein the volunteer-teachers together with the kids happily participated.
A storytelling was then followed. And it was told by Jedda and Jay-r.
The short story was about a kid who was scared of an old neighboring woman and thought of her as an ‘aswang’ or some kind of a mythical creature that eats children.
Later the kid found out the truth of the accusations of people around him towards Granny.
The moral of the story is to be never too judgmental to anyone.
After that was feeding time!
Thank you, Rotary Club of New Manila East for sponsoring today’s food for the kids!
Afterwards, our PEARLS Scholars became busy because volunteer-teachers were teaching them to read and to comprehend.
This day ended with a smile on everyone’s faces because a Sunday morning was well spent once again on this little sweet haven which we called courtyard.
This is the meeting place of the hopefuls and the ones who give hopes.
See you next week kids for another Sunday of learning and fun and hope to see you again next week, volunteers! Thanks for sparing some time with these little champions of Tondo, Manila.
