Project Pearls
Feeding, Mass and Blessing for the Clinic, After School Program
in Helping Land, Tondo, Manila, Philippines
July 17, 2016
For us in Project Pearls, having a health center at the heart of a very slum community like Helping Land is a dream come true. The kids and other residents can now have a free medication or check up because they can’t truly afford to go to paid clinic or hospital just to save their lives from common diseases. Their everyday way of living is already a struggle and to get medicines or even just a light medical consultation would be too much luxurious for them.
For this one fine Sunday in Helping Land, Tondo, early in the morning, volunteers from different walks of life were all so busy preparing.
Some were having their efforts in preparing today’s lesson plan, modules and learning materials for our Scholars while some are already exerting their sweats in making meals and preparing drinks for the kids.
A mass will also be held for the official opening of our health clinic so other volunteers were given the task to arrange everything for it.
The kids were also outside the courtyard, falling in line and patiently waiting for their time to enter.
To some, it may looks chaotic but smile on everyone’s faces were all present while doing all these things for free.
When everything was already done, Father Zaldy, our official priest for this day along with the choir was then ready to lead the mass. Kids entered the courtyard to silently sit and hear the mass.
After an hour, feeding activity was then followed.
Meanwhile, the ribbon-cutting and house blessing for our health clinic was held. Our clinic is just beside the courtyard and it would be only ten steps away. So while the kids were busy eating and volunteers were assisting them, Father Zaldy proceeded to the clinic to bless it. Our Project Pearls founder Miss Melissa was also present on the scene. She led the ribbon-cutting together with Casie. Casie is one of our youngest volunteers and advocates in Project Pearls. She even conducted her own fund-raising which we called ‘Casie’s Bag of Dreams’ wherein she used to donate hundreds of bags with school supplies for the least fortunate children every year.
The blessing of our clinic was a total success. Thank you for all the people who made this possible.
We are constantly in need of medicines; vitamins and other medical or dental assistance so please do have a heart to share some for us. Thank you in advance! We can save a life by being a blessing.
So let’s go back now to our courtyard.
After eating their meals, kids and volunteers were now preparing for the After School Program.
In just a few more minutes, volunteers were already busy teaching our scholars about the Math subject. Just like last week, Math was still the lesson for this day. The task of volunteer-teachers was to prepare the kids for next week’s exam or we so called Post-test. This is to measure if there will be improvement from the Pre-test they took last month.
Everyone was then so busy learning Math.
We will never get tired saying thank you to our ever-dedicated volunteers and also to our generous sponsors.
Thank you, Foothill College USA for being our food sponsor, Jay Anne Zabian and friends for the snacks that included mammon bread and juice and Adrian Soco for the clothes donation. Our kids enjoyed all of it well.
We are looking forward to see all of you over and over again.
We are all truly blessed in different ways. And sometimes, by being a blessing to others, we are already having the graces that we deserve in life.
