Project Pearls Brain Booster
At Helping Land
(May 14, 2016)
“Comfort zone is a wonderful place but nobody grows up there.”
For this day’s activity, our PEARLS kids were taught how to grow plants.
But before that, hearty meals for the children were prepared first by our volunteers.
Jollibee also visited Helping Land today and the kids had so much fun with him. Thank you for dropping by, Jollibee!
After the feeding, a story-telling was held. The story is about “Sid”. Sid was a little seed who was afraid to get out of his comfort zone. He lives contently below the ground. For him, the world outside his home is a very dangerous place. He lived there happily with his friends. But then his friends left their “comfort zone” and he was all alone and felt sad. Later on, he realized that he must get out of that zone and grow up to see a better and wider world with his friends!
After that, we then taught the kids how to grow plants. A seed will grow if we water it properly and regularly. The presence of sunlight to the plants is also needed. We also showed to them the cycle of a growing seed through illustrations.
After the short discussion, the children were given a black plastic that contains soil and seeds. They were instructed to grow the plants in their home and bring it back at the courtyard next week for us to see its development.
Before going home, children fell in line to get toys and clothes as gifts from our sponsors.
We would like to thank our today’s sponsor, Tradewings Tours and Travel Corp. Thank you so much and we hope that you would never get tired sharing your blessings with these kids.
Just like the story of Sid, we should also learn to step out of our comfort zone. We must leave our comfortable places once in awhile for us to see a wider, better and brighter world.
And here at Project Pearls, we believe that being a volunteer is one of the best examples of getting out in that kind of zone. Be a volunteer now and experience it for yourself.
As per the great actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, “The further you get away from yourself, the more challenging it is. Not to be in your comfort zone is great fun!”
Join us and surely you will have so much fun while sharing some love to others. 🙂
